12 Nature and Recycling Activities and Crafts for Kids

Happy Earth Day

Even though April 22nd is "officially" Earth Day, it's important to teach our children to celebrate nature and the awesomeness of our planet every day.  So today, I am sharing some fun ideas for learning, playing and creating that will get kids exploring nature and thinking about our planet.

Make you own Paper Roll Binoculars and go on a Nature Walk

Recycle Cardboard to use in Puffy Paint Art

Make Faux Lava Lamps with Recycled Plastic Bottles

Reuse Bottle Caps to Make Art (or Practice Letter Formation)

For even more great ideas check out our Take Care of Mother Earth Pinterest Board.

What fun ways do you use nature or recycled items
in your crafts, play or learning with kids?

Kid Craft: Recycled Robot!

Today, I have a quick little craft courtesy of my 6 year old.

The Oldest Diva had to come up with a recycled art project for school.
After a few idea changes, she settled on a robot.

Of course it wasn't just any robot,
it had to be a life sized robot!

That's my girl!

She brainstormed what she wanted it to look like -
she had a very specific artistic vision from the beginning.

It was my job to commander the pieces she needed.

We gathered our supplies:
cardboard boxes
cereal boxes
bottle caps
paper towel rolls
silver paint
hot glue

& called upon friends and family to save their trash.

Then, the Oldest Diva got to work
(with a bit of painting help from her little sister).

I helped with the hot gluing
& I have my fingers crossed it stays together!

The completed robot is adorable.

He looks so happy!

The Oldest Diva is super excited to take her robot into school.

She is so proud of her creation that she requested
her robot have a place on the blog.

This mama is more than happy to oblige.
Didn't she do a fabulous job?

Great robot book for kids:
