A Day at the Pumpkin Patch & The Show Us Your Town Hop (Fall Edition)

This weekend we took the girls to Bedner's Farm
I love this place - we go there to pick strawberries, tomatoes & sunflowers during the season. Currently, they have a pumpkin patch. Living in FL means we do not have "real" pumpkin patches but Bedner's farm really gives you as close to the experience as you can get.

We spent some time searching through the pumpkin patch for the perfect pumpkins and of course I was taking lots and lots of pictures.

The Lil Divas were so happy with their pumpkins &
each found their own "perfect" for them pumpkin.

We explored the Haunted House together. I was pleasantly surprised that the Lil Divas were not at all scared. They had a great time & wanted to take pictures with all the scary monsters.

Then, we spent some time in the corn maze.  The Littlest Diva took charge, led the way in and got us all out safely as well!  She was so proud of herself. :)

Finally, we rode the tractor -
the Lil Divas love this & we have to do it at each and every visit.

It was such a fabulous day on the farm. It was a nice breezy day and it really felt like Fall was finally paying us a visit here in FL.

*****************

I know you all have been enjoying some fabulous Fall outings as well
so I would love to invite you to share those places and experiences with us
on the Fall Edition of the Show Us Your Town Hop.

Show Us Your Town Hop 9/16/11 - Share Your Local Autumn Fun

Fall is here! Well, not for me here in FL but my family up north has started bundling up and I am jealous! Jealous of the crisp autumn weather, the apple picking and being able to witness the eventual changing of the colors of the leaves.

So I am hoping you will share your fall activities, outing and experiences with me on the Show Us Your Town Hop so I can live vicariously through you! :)

Pony Palooza Club - A Young Horse Lover's Dream Come True

My horse loving Lil Diva has been part of a wonderful local program for kids called Pony Palooza Club.

What is Pony Palooza Club?
The program introduces young children to horses by providing them with hands-on experiences with real horses. They are taught basic horse care and become more knowledgable about horses while becoming comfortable and familiar with horses in general.

About the Program:
The program is geared for boys and girls ages 4 to 10. It runs once a week for 1.5 hrs. and includes an art/craft activity and a healthy snack. The program is run by the wonderful Jodi Schlinkmann and is housed in a premier local riding facility - Pine Hollow.

Our Thoughts & Personal Experience:
Each week the horse loving kids explored a new theme which also had a built in craft activity related to horses. The Oldest Diva was so proud of all her finished products. She even got to paint on a horse - a highlight of her young horse loving life!

The Oldest Diva started the program with both a love for and a fear of horses. She was afreaid to get too close and certainly would not feed the horses any carrots on her own. Within a few weeks, she knew all the horses by name and by far, her favorite part of the program became the hands-on interaction with the horses! She loved visiting her favorite horses & ponies and feeding them carrots at the end of each session.

I was so happy with how comfortable she became around the horses and how much she learned about them and their care in general. The experience was very hands-on, making it both memorable, enjoyable and a great way to learn while having fun. The Oldest Diva washed horses, groomed them, learned about their food, saddles, horse shoes and even how to care for their teeth.

It was an amazing program and something every young horse lover would enjoy being part of. If you live in the area and have a horse crazy kid - you must check out Pony Palooza Club.

Visit Pony Palooza at Pine Hollow's Facebook Page for more information on upcoming sessions.

Family Fun Friday - Flamingo Gardens & Wildlife Sanctuary (Davie, FL)

We recently set off on a local family fun adventure through Flamingo Gardens and Wildlife Sanctuary located in Davie, FL. I have been there numerous times (it is a popular & wonderful school trip location) but it was our first time taking the Lil Divas!

Of course as it's name suggests - there were flamingos!

But Flamingo gardens has so much more to offer!
We started our day with a Tram Tour.

During the narrated tram ride through the tropical rainforest, native hammock, wetland area, and groves we learned so much about Florida's native plant life and wildlife.

The wildlife encounter show was very informative and we got to meet these 3 cool animals:

Then, we toured the Bird of Prey Center: All the birds showcased are either at-risk or endangered and cannot be released because of injuries sustained in the wild.

One of our favorite attractions is the 25,000 square foot free-flight aviary. It is one of the largest collections of wading birds in America. How amazing to walk near all these different birds. The Lil Divas were so amazed by it all.

Suspended in mid air (via an amazing collection of webs) throughtout the facility were
Golden Silk Orb (Banana) Spiders. I was pretty panicked one would fall on me any second but I have to admit even I was amazed at all their intricate webs connecting from one tree to the next - making it look like the spiders were suspended in mid-air.

We had a wonderful afternoon exploring Florida's native wild & plant life
and I even came home with some Lil Wild Things of my own! :)

Great Follow-up Books:
