Monsters University Fun Food for Kids

Monsters Inc. was the first movie I saw with my husband when we started dating so Mike and Sully have always had a special place in my heart. My girls have seen the movie countless times (we love Boo) over the years so we were all buzzing with excitement over watching Monsters University upon it's release this summer.  It didn't disappoint! We ALL loved it and knew we'd have it own it on DVD so we could watch it again and again. Guess what - the Blu-ray Combo Pack is available for you to own starting today, October 29th! Yay!

The whole family has been looking forward to the DVD release of Monsters University so we could enjoy it all over again - it was hilarious!  We were lucky enough to get an advanced copy which we enjoyed with a fun MU Themed Family Movie Night. 

I wanted to come up with a fun (quick & easy) menu for the girls to enjoy as we watched the movie. Strolling through the bread aisle at the supermarket, my eyes fell on some spinach wraps and I instantly thought of Mike Wazowski. 

How cute are these Mike Wazowski Cheese Quesadillas? 

They were a hit with the Lil Divas and so easy to make. Don't you love quick & easy kid friendly food?!  To make these Mike Wazowski cheese quesadillas simply start with a green spinach wrap and your favorite cheeses (my girls prefer cheddar) - I find shredded cheese melts best. 

You can heat/melt these on your stovetop or in the microwave. Go with whichever method you prefer. I love a yummy melted cheesy quesadilla.

To make Mike Wazowski, I used some of our sliced cheddar cheese and cut a circle shape for the famous eye and a fun toothy smile for his mouth. To finish off the eye I used a little black food gel and a blue M&M.

Let the children dig in & enjoy!

You can't have a movie without popcorn and what's a MU movie without MU themed popcorn!

Another super easy snack idea for you. 

Start with your favorite popcorn (ours was white cheddar, yum!) 

and add in green and blue M&M's - Mike & Sully all the way!

Family Movie Night with the 3M Mobile Projector

My family loves to watch movies together so we have regular family movie nights. When you do something often, it starts to lack that excitement factor so I was pretty excited about jazzing up our family movie night with the 3M Mobile Projector. Forget the tv screen, that's so yesterday - let's project the movie onto the wall or even the ceiling for some fun.

Seriously, with the 3M Mobile Projector you can tap into your iPad, iPhone, iPod and even most computers and laptops (requires additional cable). View movies, photo slide shows, home videos, youtube videos, stream directly from Netflix and even view all your fun apps/games in action. For a small, portable pocket projector the 3M sure packs punch with all the fun things you can do.

On this particular night, the Lil Divas wanted to view the many, many photos and video clips of them I have on my iPhone. They like watching themselves in action and re-living our family outings, fun, etc. Do your kids like that to? I know it can't be just mine. They beg us often to view our home movies of them as babies.

Instead of having to watch on the small screen of my iPhone, we took out some blankets and pillows, got comfy on the floor and watched everything projected onto our family room wall. They really enjoyed seeing the photo slideshow play so large on our wall. It's not often they get to see such larger than life pictures and videos of themselves.

Of course once they got started they didn't want to stop so we decided to try watching a movie this way. You have to find a way to place the projector so that it projects onto the section you want to view it from but this is easily done by placing it on a table, chair, pillows, etc. The Lil Divas actually held it for most of the time since they were excited about having this new "toy" to test out. It's lightweight and small even for little hands.

My only complaint is that the volume doesn't get too loud. To really get that movie feel you would need additional speakers because the built in sound is pretty low it was fine for us watching at home but if anyone was talking, it was hard to hear the movie.

Overall, the 3M Mobile Projector is a cool little gadget to have. This would be great to use while camping - how cool would it be to project a movie on the side of your tent or RV under the stars, vacationing - view your photos, movies or game apps right on the hotel wall or at home - having a sleepover, the kids will love it. I can think of so many more fun ways to use this product. What would you use it for?

Igloos, Penguins & Happy Feet, Oh My!

Finished up our fun Penguin Week!

I have a few more activities to post/share.

Craft : Building Igloos

I must warn you this was more of a fail than a success but it was so much fun I decided to share anyway! We used ice and vanilla frosting to build our igloos! We didn't get very far bc the girls were too busy sucking ice and eating frosting so the ice was melting and slippery and our igloo wouldn't stick! :)

It turned into an icy playtime which was fine - we talked about how the penguins slide on the ice and how cold it is! I just went with what we had going on and turned it into a teachable moment! :)

That's as far as our igloo got! Notice the frosting on her lips! :)

To finish off our theme we had a penguin themes movie night last night!

Movie Night: Happy Feet

The girls had seen it before but after all our penguin activities and books this week - it really made them pay attention to things more. We were naming the different kinds of penguins and really noticing lots that we had learned in the movie! It was a great Movie Night! I am going to try and do this more with our themes from now on if possible! It was a fun way to end things & it really showcased how much we had learned about penguins.

I have 1 more post to finish up w/some fun games and then we are oficially done!

Next theme - Dr. Seuss Week! This is going to be fun! :)
