10 Fun Halloween Crafts & Learning Activities for Kids

We have Halloween on the brain - big time! The Lil Divas are so excited that I can't help but feel pretty excited too. So I have started planning some fun activities to do here at home and thought I'd share some of last year's fun with you to start things off.

I made a Halloween Scavenger Hunt Sensory Bin that was definitely one of my favorite Halloween activities of all time. It was squishy, slimy fun for the kiddos to find all the hidden Halloween items in the colored pasta. Really, it feels so cool to put your hands in there - a must try!

While you are already cooking spaghetti, you might want to save some so you can make these Spooky Spaghetti Spider Webs. We hung them up as decorations and they looked great. I want to make more this year.

In keeping with the spider theme for another moment - you have to try creating this Spider Web Maze at home! The Lil Divas have already asked me if I would do it again. It was such a fun and memorable activity for them.

Pumpkins are a huge part of Halloween and fall in general. I love pumpkin recipes and so look forward to this time of year. I can't wait to get crafty with our pumpkins this year. This Colored & Glittered Pasta Pumpkin Craft is one of my favorite crafts from last Halloween. 

Did you know that October 30th is National Candy Corn Day? We had lots of fun celebrating this fun holiday last year. We crafted, did some math and even worked on word families all in honor of candy corn. 

While working on this post I asked the Lil Divas for their favorite activities and crafts - after all it is about the kids right? Both Lil Divas said I had to share our Mummy Wrapping Fun with you again. Stock up on gauze and then let the kids get wrapping. This was such a simple way to have fun, yet it made such an impact on them. Aren't those the best activities/memories?

You know I like to sneak in some learning into our fun so one of my favorite activities from last year is our Paper Roll _at Word Family Bats. They turned out super cute and were a great way to practice some phonics skills with my kindergartener. 

I have a fondness for handprint crafts. I can't help but think about the fact that the Lil Divas hands won't be this small for very long. They are getting so big already, I love trying to capture where we are now and freeze time if only through a craft memento so these Handprint Spiders and Marble Paint Webs are very near and dear to my heart. Not only is marble painting a fun activity but the fact that these handprint spiders are made from their little hands - well, let's just say this craft is one of the ones that I have tucked away for the future.

Another easy & fun Halloween craft - Painted Rock Ghosts. These are beyond easy to make but make sure you have a generous rock supply because they kiddos won't want to stop at painting just one.

One more ghost and a final Halloween themed activity for you - Faux Stain Glass Ghosts. These are easy to make and great to hang on your windows.

Pre-K/K Halloween Theme: Ghosts Rocks & Learning Fun

Today we had some "ghostly fun" with rocks!

Check out our adorable Rock Ghosts:

These are SUPER EASY to make and are just the cutest little decorations to have around the house. I am hoping to make more Halloween themed rocks this week - pumpkins, monsters.... my mind is going!

What You Need:

fun ghostly shaped rock

white paint

black permanent marker or paint

paintbrush

What To Do:

1. Paint the rock white and allow to dry

2. Draw eyes and mouth using black permanent marker or paint

Seriously, that's it!

 Ridiculously Easy = PERFECT for Little Hands

Ghostly Math Fun

Addition Practice:

Using one of our foam cubes the Lil Divas rolled the dice to get two numbers for their addition problem. I had some cute ghost erasers that they used as manipulatives to help with the addition/counting as needed.

Subtraction Practice:

For these, I provided the math problems on the ghosts and they used the ghosts erasers to practice simple subtraction.

 

Number Word Matching:

Using the same ghost templates I made a simple file folder matching game where the Oldest Diva had to turn over a ghost card, read the number word and match it to the correctly numbered ghost in the folder.

Ghost Counting & Number Recognition Practice:

The Littlest Diva practiced her number recognition using numbered ghost cards and our ghost erasers. 

Color Word Review:

Since I have been working with the Oldest Diva on her color sight words I thought this was a great opportunity to practice in a fun way with this simple file folder game I made. One one set of ghosts I wrote color words and the other set were colored in matching colors. The Oldest Diva had to flip a color word card, red the word and match it to the correctly colored ghost.

Halloween Fun: Faux Stain Glass Ghosts

I have been wanting to do some faux stain glass projects with the Lil Divas to decorate our windows.  I asked them what they wanted to work on and they decided on ghosts!

Craft: Faux Stain Glass Ghosts

What You Need:

Black Construction Paper

Con-Tact, Tracing or Wax Paper

colored tissue paper

(we used black, orange, yellow & white)

glue

stick or brush to apply glue

What To Do:

Note: I used tracing paper for this craft because we have lots of it from a back to school clearance sale.

1. Make a basic ghost template 

2. Cut template out of black construction paper. Fold and cut an outline.

3. Cut/tear tissue paper into small squares.

4. Apply glue liberally to ghost template and affix colored tissue paper squares.

5. Allow to dry.

6. Add black construction paper outline to top of tissue paper ghost.
7. Trim any excess paper around edges.

8. Display on window! (I took the photo at night so I put it up to the light to show that tracing paper let's the light shine through just like wax paper)

Puffy Paint Handprint Ghost Magnets & Tissue Paper Ghosts for Halloween!

I couldn't hold off any longer on our Halloween fun!

The Lil Divas were begging for pumpkins, witches, bats, spiders and ghosts!

So I decided to put a few things on the back burner for now
& dive in to all the Halloween fun!

Puffy Paint Handprint Ghost Magnets

What You Need:

shaving cream

glue

black foam

paint brush

black paint

What to Do:

1. Mix shaving cream and glue to create your puffy paint. I don't measure and honestly it's never come out wrong so this is pretty forgiving. I use more shaving cream than glue but I am generous with the glue so that it sticks well.

2. Let child paint their hand - be sure to encourage them to apply puffy paint generously!

3. Press onto the black foam and allow to dry a little but not completely.

3. Using a small brush add eyes and mouth

4. Add magnets to the back of each foam piece add dates, names, etc if desired.

5. Proudly Display!

Easy Tissue Paper Ghosts

What You Need:
tissue paper (used from gift wrap)
tissue (kleenex)
pipe cleaner
permanent marker

What To Do:

1. Make a ball out of the tissue/kleenex and cover it with the tissue paper pinching to make a head

2. Tie w/pipe cleaner and add eyes & mouth using permanent marker.

3. These little guys make great decorations!
