One Small Gesture Can Mean So Much #KleenexCares

Little things can mean just as much or even more than big gifts. Who hasn't heard the age old saying, "it's the thought that counts"? Growing up when I was faced with unwanted gifts from well meaning but otherwise clueless relatives my mother would remind me of that saying quite often. I have to be honest, I didn't get it as a kid. Why should I be happy with socks when I really wanted a Cabbage Patch or Strawberry Shortcake doll? Why should I be appreciative of an itchy sweater that was two sizes too big when what I really wanted was the latest Babysitter's Club book (remember those?). My mother meant well but at the time it just didn't make sense to me.

I get it now. As an adult I see beyond my own immediate wants and needs. Even the smallest of gestures mean a lot to me. An email, text or phone call to see how I am feeling when you know I have been ill - that brightens my day. Treating me to my favorite coffee or frozen yogurt - it's a treat I am so appreciate of. My husband letting me sleep in (even if for a few more minutes) on the weekend when he isn't working - that's priceless to a tired mama.

I have been trying to show my girls that doing little things for others is actually a really big deal. Often those little gestures like picking up someone's dropped pencil/book/paper, holding the door open for the person behind you, helping mommy set the table or tidy the house and smiling and saying good morning to your friends and teachers at school can really brighten someone's day just when they need it most. In other words, little things can mean just as much or even more than big gifts.

Kleenex knows this and they are letting us show we care and helping us put a smile on someone's face with their Kleenex Care Packs. Recently, we shared how we brightened a sick friend's day by giving her a Kleenex Care Pack when she needed a little pick me up. It was a small gesture, provided at just the right moment, that meant so much to her and we felt so good being able to do it.

So when I asked the Lil Divas who they wanted to gift our second care pack to - I asked them to think about someone that they cared about, someone that could use a little pick me up and someone that was always there for them and whom they would want to say thank you to. The answer was easy - their teachers.

Perfect! As a teacher I know how hard they work each and every day. I was so proud that the Lil Divas thought about saying thank you to their teachers on their own and I know their thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated.  The Lil Divas were so inspired by their little act of kindness that I even got a thank you card for being the world's best mommy - and it wasn't even my birthday or Mother's Day!

How do you inspire your children to care about and think of others? How about letting them send out a Kleenex Care Pack? It's as easy as 1-2-3!
1. Purchase a specially marked box or bundle of Kleenex brand tissues.
2. Find the special code on the package & enter it online.
3. Then, simply share the care by sending a Kleenex Care Pack.

It might be the thought that counts but above all else it's simply nice to be thought of by others, isn't it? That's why it's so important to teach our children to think of others,  to show they care and that they are appreciative of what others do for them - beyond birthdays and holidays. I don't know about you but that random act of kindness on a Tuesday, sheerly out of the blue and from the heart means so much more to me than the biggest Christmas or birthday gifts. So go ahead and show you care! One small gesture can mean so much.
