A Lil Diva Weekly Wrap-Up - A Recap of the Week's Activities

Summer is slowly but surely coming to an end.  The Lil Divas start school in a mere 2 weeks so we have been trying to cram in all those things we haven't gotten around to doing before our schedules become even busier.

If you are in the same situation or merely off enjoying your summer you may have missed a thing or two here. Sad? Disappointed? Well, you are in luck because I am going to give you a quick recap of our week. :)

This week we went on a fun filled (& HOT) family outing to Zoo Miami. It was such a great day and I was a bit camera happy so we have lots and lots of fabulous photos. My favorite part - feeding the giraffes. Aren't giraffes awesome? I love them!

We have been closely following the Summer Olympic Games. Are you watching with your kids? This is the first year we are really able to share it with the Lil Divas and they are so impressed with the US Ladies Gymnastics Team and all the swimming competitions.

We worked on this fun Olympic Rings Flag Art to show our support of Team USA in the games.

I have been working a lot with the Littlest Diva this summer since she is entering kindergarten this year. We spend quite a bit of time playing games that double as learning activities. Our most recent game - Water Balloon Number Target Practice was a huge hit. It involved taking aim, throwing water balloons and getting wet - what's not to like?

The Lil Divas have been enjoying their new Backyard Oceans Swimming Pool. It's a perfect way to beat the heat during the hot and humid South FL summer days.

Do you follow us on Facebook? We shared a frugal and fun tip with our fans this past week involving using those broken, itty bitty pieces pieces of leftover chalk to paint outside.  I'd love for you to join us there - we love chatting, sharing fun photos and so much more.

Have you seen this week's Sunday Showcase? We featured some fun Lego/Duplo posts that take you beyond average building. Come by and check them out and take a peek at all the great ideas that are being shared this week.

Finally, this week some BIG NEWS with everyone!
We are currently in the Top 2  and I would love to finish out on top when the contest ends on August 9th. I would be so appreciative if you could take a moment to click on the link and vote for us. All it takes is a simple click - no sign-ups or login required! With your help we could finish this at #1!

We had a busy week.
Next week will be even busier -
we are taking a trip to Sea World Orlando, the hubby & I are celebrating our 8th anniversary
and the Lil Divas and I have lots of activities to cross off our Summer Fun List before school starts.

Do you still have things you are trying to cross off your Summer Bucket List? I know I can't be the only one. Right? What do you plan to cross off your list next week?

I hope you join us for more fun next week,
Bern

Summer Fun: Painting Seashells

Nothing says summer like the beach!

Recently I took a fabulous "Mommy's Only" trip to Sanibel, FL where I collected many, many fabulous seashells.  The Lil Divas were super excited to get their hands on these gorgeous shells and get crafty. Over the summer I hope to do a few different activities with our shells but the 1st thing the Lil Divas wanted to do was paint some of them. They even insisted we put it on our Summer Fun List to ensure we made time for it.

This was such a tranquil activity - perfect after a day of swim lessons and playdates at the park.

Painting Seashells

I gave the Lil Divas free reign for this activity.
They picked the shells they wanted to use as their canvas and got painting.

They chose plain white seashells
& opted to use lots and lots of color!

The result?
Colorful,
Cheerful,
Beautiful seashells!

Now, what should we do with them?

Amidst swim classes and playdates we also enjoyed a wonderful trip to our local Children's Art Museum for lots of hands on fun.

{Wordless Wednesday} Summer Fun: Young at Art Children's Museum

We LOVE visiting children's museums. There's just something so freeing about being not only "able to" but invited to touch and play with everything. Combine that with an art museum that provides opportunities to create and explore different mediums of art and you have the potential for some serious FUN!

Here's a peek at some of the Lil Divas hands-on fun at Young at Art Museum in Davie, FL. They provide such awesome opportunity for artistic expression, learning, exploration and hands-on fun.

What a great day!
We can't wait to go back.

Summer Fun: TP Roll Binoculars & A Nature Walk

Summer is in full swing & we have been busy, busy, busy! Swim lessons, playdates, learning fun and of course crossing items off of our Summer Bucket List.

One of our recent activities was crafting some snazzy TP Roll Binoculars and going on a little Nature Exploration around our neighborhood.

What You Need:
2 TP rolls or 1 Paper Towel Roll
glue
decorative paper or paint

We opted to use decorative paper to cover our TP Rolls because we wanted to use them right away but you can also paint these if you have more time.

The Lil Divas each chose what design they wanted and I cut the paper to fit around the TP Rolls.

Each Lil Diva covered the back of their paper with glue and rolled the TP Roll up around it.

To make the top/bottom of the binoculars we used black tape for the zebra striped pair and purple foam for the other pair.

I cut another strip of matching paper to fit in the middle. The Lil Divas once again covered the back of the paper with glue. Then, we put both rolls on each end and rolled them to meet in the middle. I added some glue to the top and bottom to further bind them together.

Finally, we attached some string (we stapled them inside the rolls) & we we were ready to test them out outdoors!

How cute are they?

I was quite amused at how the Lil Divas were using them like magnifying glasses but they seemed to think it was absolutely fabulous and we had a great nature walk through our neighborhood. We looked at flowers and lots and lots of bugs.

Then we spied some birds in the trees and my Lil Nature Explorers were able to intently watch them through their snazzy binoculars. :)

What an easy craft (added bonus we were able to use recyclables!) and what a fun way to spend some time exploring with my two favorite girls.
