Faux Tie Dye Fall Leaves

Yes, I had to do it! You know I have a fondness for our Do-a-Dot Markers and making Faux Tie Dye Creations with them so I couldn't resist making some fall leaves for our windows. They are FABULOUS & we love how they turned out!

What You Need:
coffee filters (these are a must have crafting item!)
bingo daubers or Do-A-Dot Markers
scissors

What To Do:
Cut out various leaf shapes (older children can do this for themselves if desired) from your coffee filters. I suggest having a few ready - once you start you will just keep going. These are pretty additive in my house. The Lil Divas love trying to come up with different patterns.

Take a leaf cut out and fold it in half and then in half again. There are so many ways to do this and the fun part is trying a different fold each time so that you get new patterns. We just have fun with it and I let the Lil Divas fold as they please.

Use your bingo daubers or Do-A-Dot Markers to make a design. My best tip is to encourage kids to try and saturate the paper so that the colors go through the folds and the bleed together. It creates a deep, richly colored pattern.

Carefully open your leaf - be careful not to tear the coffee filter.

Allow the coffee filter leaves to dry on a tray or other safe surface. Continue folding and daubing leaves as desired. Be sure to change your folds and designs so that you have a fun array of faux tie dye designs.

Display your leaves on your windows, walls, etc as desired. They look great!

We used Crayola Washable Window Markers to make a large tree on our window and we attached a few of our leaves. We love using these markers - they always wash right out but are long lasting on our displays.

The rest of the leaves we just taped here and there to our windows. Not having a real fall season here in FL, it's nice to add a few touches like these to our windows to make our environment a bit more fall like.

Here's a quick sneak peek at our windows -

Now, for how we got there!

What To Do:
1. Cut out flower patterns from your coffee filters
2. Fold - see 1 example below but be sure to
fold your flowers in different ways to create different patterns

3. Use your dot markers and make fun patterns on the folded flowers.

Be sure to dot the paper well and soak it on each side
to have the most color on your flowers!

4. Open carefully - they will be wet and can rip easily so beware

5. Let your pretty flowers dry & then display!

to make a spring garden scene on our windows.

Faux Tie Dye Shamrocks - A St. Patrick's Day Craft

The Lil Divas and I have grown fond of our faux tie dye decorations.
They are so easy, festive & fun.

After doing our snowflakes and hearts,
I knew we had to make some shamrocks for our windows.
Be prepared because we will definitely be doing these for each holiday -
LOVE it!

The Lil Divas are getting more and more creative with their designs.
It's awesome because the more you mix up those dauber dots -
the more fun your pattern is!

We never know what we will end up with until we open it up -
it's a surprise every time!

What You Need:
coffee filters
bingo daubers
(we used green, lt. green & yellow)
we use these:

Note: you can also use markers & alcohol
but the Lil Divas like the bingo daubers

What To Do:
1. Cut out a shamrock shape from the coffee filter - I did it like hearts
2. Fold - (see photos below)
fold in half - hot dog style
fold in half again - hamburger style
fold in half again so it looks almost like a cone
3. make your pattern - let the kids go crazy & see what they get!
Try folding it different ways and see how it changes your patterns.

Tip: Be sure to daub/cover both sides and really soak it
so the color goes through all the layers.

4. Open it up and behold your tie dye pattern.
5. Allow to air dry.

We have some awesome patterns.
I'm excited about displaying these on our windows!

Valentine Craft: Tie Dye Hearts

After making our Tie Dye Snowflakes
the Lil Divas had the fabulous idea to make...

Tie Dye Hearts

Aren't they gorgeous?

What You Need:
coffee filters
scissors
bingo/do-a-dot markers

we use these:

What To Do:

1.  I found it worked easiest for the girls to
fold the coffee filter in half, draw a heart & then cut it out.

2. Fold the bottom of your 1/2 heart up along the crease.
It will create the look of a triangle with the tip of the heart on top.
(see 2nd to last photo above in bottom row)

3. Fold the entire thing in half again (last photo above)

4. Using your bingo daubers or do-a-dot markers create a colorful pattern.

Tip: Be sure to do both sides and press hard so it soaks through the filter.
It's a bit messy but so worth it!

The Lil Divas used lots of colors and did varied designs.
That is what is so fun to them about this activity -
never knowing what you'll see when you open it up!

They look so beautiful & each one was unique!

You can hang them up as decorations, display them on your windows (that's what we did & it's lovely) or you can use them to make cards (just glue onto paper) - whatever you decide to do with them, one thing is for sure - they will be a hit!
