Kids in the Kitchen: Ginger Cookies

Do your kids enjoy helping out in the kitchen? The Lil Divas, especially my youngest, love helping me cook. They have even started making me and their Dad breakfast a few times - a bagel, some fruit and orange juice! Seriously, isn't that just heart melting? It gets me every time they do it. It makes me so proud that they are learning their way around the kitchen and that they enjoy it. There is so much to learn through cooking - practical life skills, math, science, fine motor and more.

I like to try and find easy things that the Lil Divas can assist in making. Desserts are one of our favorite things to whip up together. Today, I am super excited to introduce you to Anna of Kids' Play Space. She has one of the cutest kitchen helpers around - her son. They have a wonderful time in the kitchen together. Now I will turn things over to Anna as she shares an easy recipe to make with kids - Ginger Cookies.

Our 2 year old boy absolutely LOVES cooking and there were so many opportunities for him to get involved in this simple little ginger cookie activity! Although the recipe itself is beautifully simple to whip up - we had so much fun enjoying each step along the way, and before we knew it we'd stretched it out into a full morning's entertainment!

How we played and learned in the kitchen:
* Identifying and naming ingredients
* Following instructions
* Carefully pouring
* Waiting for the cups/spoons to be 'full' or 'ready' before pouring (!!)
*Gently tapping the sifter so that it doesn't spray the entire room with flour (we learn from experience!!)
* Carefully placing the egg down so it doesn't break (before we are ready to use it!)
* Smelling the delicious mixture of butter and brown sugar!
* Opening spice jar lids - fantastic bilateral coordination practice
* Scooping/tipping
* Stirring (and holding the bowl stable with the other hand), rolling the dough between both hands- more important bilateral coordination skills ... the latter is still very much a work in progress!!
* Exploring the texture of the mixture within the hands - a wonderful sensory experience
* Picking the mixture off individual fingers (a fantastic exercise for the small muscles in the hand)
* Balancing the tray of uncooked balls without tipping it so they all fall to the floor (we lost one tray's worth in the process... oops!!)
* Waiting patiently and in total amazement while they bake - watching how they grow bigger with the oven heat!
* Enjoying the special treat of tasting warm, freshly baked cookies!

How to Bake Ginger Cookies:

Yum! Now you get to enjoy those delicious cookies you baked together. Some of our other absolute favorite Kids' Play Space 'kids in the kitchen' recipes include Blueberry Scones and Banana Blueberry Pancakes.

I really hope you enjoyed this post.
Happy baking and playing

  3. If you look too quickly at the latest release imitation watches from Kari Voutilainen, you might be tricked into thinking its an entirely new timepiece for Fake Rolex Watches the Finnish watchmaking maestro. Given the name 28ti, the watch features a brand new execution for Voutilainen, yet it should feel quite familiar for the Kari faithful. If you haven’t guessed yet, Panerai Replica that is because much of the watch’s movement — which is visible from the dial side, a first for Voutilainen — is taken from the Vingt-8 construction that is easily distinguishable due to the extra-large balance wheel found in the 28ti’s top-left corner.

  4. Absolutely! Getting kids involved in the kitchen is not only a fun bonding activity but also a fantastic way to teach them valuable life skills. My little ones, particularly my youngest, are keen helpers in the kitchen, especially when it comes to baking ginger cookies. Their enthusiasm to whip up breakfast surprises for us, complete with bagels, fruit, and orange juice, is heart-melting. Witnessing their growing interest in cooking makes me beam with pride.
